<br />Jan Wiessner <br />June 19, 2003 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />New shared Public Works Facilitv <br />The City of Arden Hills, Mounds View School District, Ramsey County, Ramsey <br />County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Ramsey County Library will be <br />sharing a new public works facility in Arden Hills. The planning process has also <br />been coordinated with the National Guard. <br /> <br />Co-location of the Ramsev County Sheriff, the Courts, and the City of Saint Paul <br />Police Department on the new Law Enforcement Center Campus. <br /> <br />Joint Powers AQreement with WashinQton County for a firearms traininQ facility to be <br />located on the new Law Enforcement Center Campus <br /> <br />CompilinQ a comprehensive plan to respond to homeland security needs. <br />Ramsey County recently hired a new Emergency Management Director to head up <br />the Office of Emergency Management. This person will continue the efforts begun <br />by Jane Norbin and Michael Aiken, in concert with the cities, to better coordinate <br />Homeland Security issues throughout the county in the aftermath of 9/11. The new <br />Emergency Manager will also participate in broader homeland security and natural <br />disaster planning activities in the East Metropolitan area. <br /> <br />ExplorinQ possible development of an 800 MHz-based public safety communications <br />system County-wide <br />On April 1 , 2003, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners began a discussion <br />of issues related to the Metropolitan Public Safety Communication System/BOO MHz <br />and the County's potential participation in this regional system. On April 28, a letter <br />was sent to all the municipalities expressing the County's interest. The Board has <br />authorized the County Manager to begin exploring options, costs and financing <br />mechanisms; and to meet with representatives of the municipalities in this effort. <br />The Saint Paul City Council has agreed to join Ramsey County in this discussion of <br />a county-wide public safety communications/800 MHz-based system. <br /> <br />Expandinq ioint purchasinq options <br />Ramsey County uses the State contract when appropriate, but usually can attain <br />similar and sometimes greater savings through its own purchasing power. All <br />municipalities in Ramsey County are encouraged to utilize this service for both large <br />and small purchases. <br /> <br /> <br />Providinq municipalities access to Ramsey County/Sf. Paul RiverPrint services. <br />RiverPrint is a full-service print shop jointly developed by Ramsey County and the <br />City of St. Paul. Its services can be made available to other municipalities. <br />
