<br />Regular City Council Minutes - 07/21/03 <br />Page 7 <br /> <br />Introduction of Pastor Karl Neu <br />Councilmember Kough introduced Pastor Karl Neu (SP) <br />and his wife, pastor at Light of Life Lutheran Church in <br />Maplewood, recently released after his arrest and <br />imprisonment in Cambodia and an active participant in the <br />Hmong community. Pastor Neu was greeted with a round <br />of applause, and presented with a Roseville pin by <br />Councilmember Kough, as a symbol of future good luck. <br /> <br />Pastor Neu spoke briefly, expressing his appreciation for <br />Councilmember Kough's invitation to tonight's meeting; <br />and his honor at being recognized and content with his <br />choice of relocation to Minnesota in the United States. <br /> <br />Recess Recess <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn recessed the meeting at 7:00 p.m. and <br />reconvened the meeting at 7:21 p.m. <br /> <br />IV. <br /> <br />Communication <br /> <br />A. Waste Management Recycling Carts <br />Recycling Coordinator Tim Pratt provided a brief update <br />on the status of the single-stream recycling pilot program, <br />advising a delay in initiative of the program due to <br />equipment purchases and labor realignments at Waste <br />Management, the City's contracted recycling service <br />provider. Mr. Pratt advised that the pilot program was <br />now able to finally tentatively enter the planning stages. <br /> <br />Discussion included which service was most cost-effective <br />for the City with review provided by staff on the initial <br />Request for Proposals (RFP's) and availability of specific <br />services for residential collection; and recent equipment <br />improvements at the Waste Management facility. <br /> <br />Mr. Gary Boyum of Waste Management was present to <br />respond to specific questions of the Council; expressed his <br />appreciation for the City's continued use of his firm; and <br />reviewed the equipment expenditures and installations at <br />the Waste Management plant to improve one-sort <br /> <br />7:21 p.m. <br />Communication <br /> <br />Waste Management <br />Recycling Carts <br />
