City Council Regular Meeting - 04/24/06
Minutes - Page 16

otherwise notified by the City Attorney.

6.c

Request of Councilmember Kough for a motion to
Instruct Staff to Apply for State and Federal Funds for
a One-Half Mile Pathway on Fairview Avenue from
County Road B to Roselawn Avenue
Councilmember Kough reviewed his request to direct staff
to apply for State and Federal funds for construction of a ~
mile pathway on Fairview Avenue from County Road B to
Roselawn Avenue. Councilmember Kough supported
increasing the priority level of this section of pathway,
citing the proximity of Brimhall School; the traffic volume
on the street; and public safety concerns with vehicles
passing on the shoulder where pedestrians and bicycle
traffic are endangered.

Francy Reitz, 2009 AIrline Street
Ms. Reitz reiterated her comments from the April 17, 2006
City Council Study Session, requesting Council support for
this pathway segment, basically in consideration of public
safety concerns. Ms. Reitz requested that, at a minimum,
police patrols be increased for better enforcement and
ticketing of vehicles in violation.

Mayor Klausing concurred with Ms. Reitz' desire for the
pathway segment, but questioned how to respond to other
neighborhoods also desiring a pathway and their perception
that their requests are of a similar or higher priority.

Discussion continued regarding prioritizing the pathway
segments, and past prioritization of the Pathway
Committee.

Kough moved, Ihlan seconded, authorizing staff to explore
funding sources for a one-half mile pathway on Fairview
Avenue from County Road B to Roselawn Avenue; and
report back to the City Council with their findings.

Councilmember Ihlan opined her desire to expand the
motion to explore funding for additional segments further
north on F airview.

Request of
Councilmember
Kough for a motion
to Apply for State
and Federal Funds
for a One-Half Mile
Pathway on
Fairview Avenue
from County Road
B to Roselawn
