City Council Minutes
01/14/02 Page 2
interchange and the ramps. Kough asked about TH280
access to Highway 36 and pedestrian movements. Gill-
Gerbig asked about the evolution of MnDOT' s thinking
about this project. Davis asked about accident rates.
Kysylyczyn asked about Highway 36 and 135W
widening. Gill-Gerbig asked about smaller projects to
address safety concerns. Schroeder asked about cost
sharing. Klausing asked about Lauderdale's concerns
about the Central Alignment. Kysylyczyn asked about
Lauderdale's willingness to sacrifice residential homes in
the SE quadrant of the Broadway-280 intersection, and
willingness to sacrifice the commercial area in the SW
quadrant. Davis responded that Lauderdale did not want
to take out homes. Christensen also said the Western
Alignment puts a ramp through a new building.

Schroeder presented an interchange option he had
sketched that impacts the NE quadrant of Broadway and
TH280. Lowell Thompson, representing Midland Hills
Country Club, opposed taking a hole out of play in the
golf course to accommodate a NE quadrant option.

Kysylyczyn asked about drainage from a reconstructed
280. Davis asked about MnDOT's timing. Christensen
commented about putting the Median Closure option
back on the table. Kough favored the Median Closure if
it could be depressed to allow for a bridge overpass and
interchange in the future. Klausing asked about the
Central Alignment without the interchange.

Gower opposed all options that had been presented thus
far.

Schroeder conlll1ented that the Median Closure option
was viable. McCloskey opposed any option that
threatened homes; he supported the Median Closure
option.

Pafko expressed MnDOT's concerns about the Median
Closure option. Maschka supported the Central
Alignment as best for all concerned. Kysylyczyn asked
about Median Closure along a Western Alignment.
