City Council Study Session - 05/15/06
Minutes - Page 11

encouraged Councilmembers to make contact with staff
with their proposed agenda topics for the joint meetings.

City Manager Beets further noted that he would rearrange
the proposed Human Rights and Housing &
Redevelopment Authority (HRA) meetings, as requested
by Councilmember Kough, to accommodate his
attendance at the HRA/City Council joint meeting
(tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, June 20, the HRA's
regular meeting day); with the Planning commission
scheduled for the City Council's June 12, 2006 meeting;
the Parks & Recreation Commission scheduled for July
10; the Public Works, Environment and Transportation
Commission scheduled for July 17; the Civil Service
Commission scheduled for July 24; and the Human Rights
Commission scheduled on August 14.

Staff was directed to provide posted notice of the Special
Council meeting on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 and canceling
the regular business meeting on Monday, June 19,2006, to
facilitate individual Council schedules and ensure a
quorum.

City Manager Beets addressed ways to strengthen Council
staff-relationships, including; the team-building exercise
recently held with Consultant Barbara Raye; more
frequent meetings between City Manager and Department
Heads and individual Councilmembers, at Council
direction.

Councilmember Kough liked his current practice of
scheduling every Wednesday at City Hall, with
opportunities to talk to staff as needed.

Mayor Klausing noted that the existing practice didn't
appear to be working, and opined there was greater value
in having a set meeting time.

Councilmember Maschka opined his preference for an
annual meeting, similar to that with Barbara Raye, and his
being amenable to meeting on a semi-annual basis.
