<br />City Council Study Session - 05/15/06 <br />Minutes - Page 15 <br /> <br />implications and potential funding sources. <br />Councilmember Pust spoke in support, within those <br />contexts, and welcomed any technical expertise available; <br />but cautioned that she didn't want to see anyone <br />committing to a community center until the community <br />has made their wishes known corporately. <br /> <br />Guidant John Rose OVAL Update <br />Parks & Recreation Director Lonnie Brokke arrived during <br />this discussion, at approximately 7:45 p.m., and provided <br />an update to Councilmembers on conversations, and his <br />continued optimism, with today's activities regarding <br />potential funding. Mr. Brokke noted the interest and level <br />of support being heard by legislators from throughout the <br />State of Minnesota, as well as Wisconsin, supporting the <br />regional OVAL facility. <br /> <br />3.f <br /> <br />Goal 6: Add Leadership to State Discussions on <br />Transit and Traffic Issues <br />City Engineer Deb Bloom was available for this <br />presentation, noting that Public Works Director Duane <br />Schwartz was attending the City of Arden Hills Study <br />Session at this time. <br /> <br />Ms. Bloom identified the Council-directed goal: "Add <br />leadership to state discussions on transit and other traffic <br />issues," and redefined by staff as follows: "The City will <br />engage in local, regional and state-wide discussions on <br />transit and transpOliation issues to improve funding <br />resources and deliver effective multi-modal solutions to <br />improve our ability to move about." <br /> <br />Councilmembers concurred with staff s revised definition. <br /> <br />Ms. Bloom noted that staff had proposed four objectives <br />or action steps: <br />1) Become engaged in a dialogue between elected <br />officials at all levels of government and the League <br />of Minnesota Cities regarding transportation issues; <br />2) Share the Council's goal with staff and authorize <br />City's Management Team to assist in moving this <br /> <br />Guidant John Rose <br />OVAL Update <br /> <br />Goal 6: Add <br />Leadership to State <br />Discussions on <br />Transit and Traffic <br />Issues <br />
