<br />City Council Study Session - 05/15/06 <br />Minutes - Page 16 <br /> <br />goal through peer organizations and interactions <br />with staff of other government entities; <br />3) Clarify transportation goals and action plans for the <br />City of Roseville to align with the Council's vision <br />for the future of the community; and <br />4) Work toward full funding of transportation plans <br />through local support, seeking of grants, and <br />challenging elected officials at other levels of <br />government to support transportation through <br />funding legislation. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pust expressed interest in the City <br />becoming more active participants with the Metropolitan <br />Council and their discussions for long-range transportation <br />Issues. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kough concurred with more actively <br />participating with the Minnesota Department of <br />Transportation (MnDOT) to make the city of Roseville's <br />presence known; as well as through continued dialogue <br />with the legislative delegation for federal funding. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan spoke in support of partnering with <br />other governmental units; following legislation more <br />closely; and including alternative modes of transportation, <br />other than vehicular, and including traffic calming and <br />reduction methods. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing spoke in support of increasing the City's <br />participation and membership in other organizations; <br />opining that there is a financial return to the City for their <br />membership, even though not always short-term and <br />obvious. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing thanked staff for their "tweaking" of the <br />Council-directed goals. <br /> <br />Councilmember and staff discussion included the <br />Northeast Diagonal Trail and it's non-priority status with <br />the Metropolitan Council's planning process; density <br />perspectives; and the state-wide ballot referendum this <br />
