<br />City Council Study Session - 05/15/06 <br />Minutes - Page 17 <br /> <br />fall regarding allocation of the motor vehicle sales tax, <br />dedicating it 60/40 to transportation/transit, phased in over <br />a five year period. <br /> <br />3.g <br /> <br />Goal 7: Continue to Integrate Technology <br />Finance Director Chris Miller provided an expanded <br />definition of the Council-directed goal as follows: <br />"Continue to research and develop new technologies that <br />will enhance programs and services by either reducing <br />operating costs and/or improving the level of service <br />currently being provided." <br /> <br />Mr. Miller identified the increasing technological <br />advances and solutions over the last ten years to improve <br />the City's service delivery process. <br /> <br />Mr. Miller reviewed proposed goals or action steps for use <br />and expansion of new technologies when they can be <br />directly tied to improving programs and services. <br />1) Identify the current reliance on technology and <br />ensure that the City has the necessary funding <br />sources to sustain it; <br />2) Identify potential new technological solutions that <br />will either reduce operating costs, and/or improve <br />the level of service; and <br />3) Commit to a small budget allocation specifically <br />designated for future technological development. <br /> <br />Councilmember and staff discussion included recognizing <br />technology as an investment with some productive values, <br />and others that may not be effective in the long-term and <br />not produce hoped-for results; value of taxpayer dollars <br />from historical perspectives in the growth of technology <br />within the City and through joint powers agreements with <br />other cities and agencies for technology and telephonic <br />assistance; exploration of possible implementation of <br />financial and accounting packages, human resources, <br />and/or GIS services being provided by Roseville for <br />smaller communities; potential of cooperative reverse <br />auction bidding for supplies among cities; state bid <br />contract versus local vendor purchasing; and problems in <br /> <br />Goal 7: Continue to <br />Integrate <br />Technology <br />
