He favors <br />having the Parks and Recreation Commission lead the effort. <br />He also favors having youth groups heavily involved. <br /> <br />Al Sands: Is haunted by the question of where to locate a <br />community center. He doubts we have room on the Civic <br />Center site. He would like the City Manager and Parks and <br />Recreation Director to talk seriously with the School District <br />about using the Fairview site. If that is not a viable option, he <br />favors using park land - namely Central Park, Howard Johnson <br />Park, or the Cedarholm Golf Course. He also wonders if Little <br />Canada, Lauderdale or Falcon Heights want to join us in <br />constructing and operating a community center. He believes <br />the timeline is four-five years away. <br /> <br />George "Bud" Merrill: Thinks we are five years too late. He <br />wonders, with Al Sands, where a community center could <br />successfully be located. Worries about adding a third <br />referendum to the already approved School and Police/Public <br />Works bonds. Believes the City Council should lead the <br />charge. <br /> <br />Neal Beets: Indicated staff would circulate a written <br />description prepared by a volunteer of the efforts made in the <br />last 15 years to plan a Roseville Community Center; he hoped <br />it would include a discussion of the recommendations made at <br />various junctures and the reasons for those recommendations so <br />that anyone could inform themselves of what had been <br />considered in the past as we move forward again. Spoke in <br />favor a citizens group, including persons who were neutral or <br />presently opposed to a community center. <br /> <br />Marilyn Pearson Florian: Urges members to remember the <br />work and office space needs of Parks and Recreation staff. <br />Favors a timeline that definitely leads to a Council, <br />Commission, and Community decision. <br /> <br />Greg Schroeder: Favors an open-ended approach leaving it to <br />the citizens to decide whether to have a community center and, <br />
