(attached) <br />Wiliiam Schrenker distributed data on gambling. (attached) <br />Dick Ericson gave a very informative presentation an crime in <br />Minnesota and the United States. (Information sheet on Citizen <br />Council is attached}. Some highlights are: <br />- It costs $5D,000 a year to keep someone in prison, it <br />costs $6,000 a year for supervised prabation. <br />- The crime rate is decreasing while reporting rates are <br />increasing. <br />- We need facts not perception. Response to crime must be <br />swift, fair, and proport�onai to the crime. � <br />- Help citizens to became stake holders in the co�aunity. <br />Questions to ask on new Cr�me Response Proposals: <br />What is the cost. <br />Where has it worked. <br />Does it have unintended negative cons�quences. <br />Is it consistent with Minnesota values? <br />Strategies: <br />- Become educated about State wide issues and their effect <br />on Roseville, pay attention to children and families, <br />adequate city planning, encourage adequate public safety <br />resources, da not depend on the police, identify anc3 help <br />tronbled families. <br />- More work on the front end of the problem should lead ta <br />more and economic success. <br />
