Our public safety efforts are maiels for our neighboring communities and beyond because we: <br />"`have a 911 system which funcrions flawlessly and provides timeZy, accurate information <br />io those respanding to req�ests for emergency assistance; <br />*have well-t�ained and adequately staffed first responders capable of quick assessment and <br />stabilization of a person in medical cmergencies; <br />*have fire hazards reduced to a minimum through expanded fire prevention and response <br />strategies; <br />�`have reduced the risk of pmperty crimes and violent crimes against individuals to the <br />barest minnnum through intensified crime prevention strategies; <br />*have reduced the risk of traffic accidents through the application of prevention techniques <br />based upon analysis of traffic accident data; and <br />*have well-thought-out, integrated plans with our neighboring communities for <br />comprehensive respanse to natural and other events creating emergencies beyond our <br />control. <br />III. Goals and Strategies <br />A. Community Crime Prevention <br />1. Individual and Family Responsibilities <br />Objective: Heighten individual and family awareness and accountabiliry in basic <br />crime prevenrion ssrategies in order to head off the potential far criminal <br />behavior. <br />Straiegies: <br />a. Assist individuals and families in becoming stakeholders in our community <br />through intensive public infornaation and community outreach ef%rts. <br />b. Increase parental responsibility and accountabiliry for the actions of their <br />cfuldren. <br />c. Heighten family awareness of the need for "child well-being", including <br />sound nutrition, basic hcalth care, effective parenting practices, and sound <br />educational programs. <br />2. Communiiy Responsibilities <br />Objecdve: Assist individuals and families in implementing basic crime <br />prevention strategies to avoid reliance on police as the primary means <br />of ensuring public safety. <br />
