<br />Special City Council Meeting -10/31/06 <br />Minutes - Page 7 <br /> <br />and testing not done prior to, but after those interviews to <br />hopefully narrow the field; and that references would be checked <br />at this time on all six candidates. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan noted that, if a candidate had specifically <br />requested that their references not be contacted until they became <br />a finalist, she would respect their privacy. Councilmember Ihlan <br />opined her preference for reference comments at the time of the <br />interviews as additional useful information; however was <br />amenable to preferences expressed by Council consensus. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kough opined his support for reference checks <br />following initial interviews. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pust opined that, from her experience, references <br />only made positive comments, and negative comments were <br />unlikely. <br /> <br />Councilmember Maschka opined his flexibility. <br /> <br />Staff was so directed to provide for background and criminal <br />investigation prior to initial interviews. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing opined his support for allowing Ms. Bacon to <br />make a decision on which executive testing firm to use. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan opined her preference for waiting. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pust opined that she was supportive of one of the <br />firms, due to her previous experience with their services; <br />however, noted that she was willing to wait. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding scheduling of testing of candidates <br />and timing of such testing; availability of local testing firms to <br />perform tests on Saturday morning, November 18, with prior <br />notification by staff and if Councilmembers were able to have <br />narrowed their selections at that point; and potential testing <br />around interview schedules. <br /> <br />Councilmember Maschka expressed his preference for a Council <br />decision as soon as possible following interviews. <br />
