Comrnissioner Venters noted that inntx�igrants were <br />not a protected class of people, so it was difficult to find supporting evidence of discrimination, <br />as previously pointed out by Councilmember Pust when she was seeking examples of <br />discrimination complaints on which the HRC was basing their request for the proposed <br />ordinance. <br />109 Commissioner McKenzie opined the need that the HRC's focus and City be proactive, thus the <br />110 need for the HRC's presentation to the City Council to be well researched and developed, <br />111 encouraging expansion of the City's welcome. <br />112 <br />113 Cornmissioner Venters said that during the phone conversation with Mayor Klausing, he <br />:14 attempted to use exact phrases from the Mayor's recent "State of the City" address. <br />115 <br />116 Commissioner MeGehee advised that the HRC had repeatedly requested from City staff specific <br />117 demographics and diversity figures of City staff, not }ust the Police Deparhment, but the entire <br />118 staff.
