Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes — December 12, 2006 <br />Page 5 of 6 <br />Commissioner Bosch further discussed the "aMA7R" program, a non-profit organization in <br />Minneapolis that had a book project and pzogiram about family diversity that was available for <br />elementary-aged chi�dren, teaching that each family is different, and addressing socio-economic, <br />GLTB, and other issues. Cammissioner Bosch advised that she had received the contact person for <br />the program from Ms. Phibbs, and would forward a copy of the diversity packet (booklet) to Chair <br />Delmore (fon c�r distribution via e-mail to other Commissioncrs) the information as soon as she <br />received it. Commissioner Bosch notcd that the diversity packet had been purcl�ased by several <br />eleznentary schools in Roseville, but that following her contact with several elementary principals <br />andlor vice principals, the existence or status of the pragram wasn't apparent or obvious. <br />Commissioners collectiveiy expressed interest in reviewing the diversity packet prior to committing <br />the HRC's endorscment. <br />Commissioner Bosch volunteered her time and education expertise, and as a zepresentative of the <br />HRC, to be a bridge to ihe schools and cammunity; and opined ihe need for discussions to be <br />reframed #o talk about families, rather ihan sexuality, to naake the prograrnlning less threatening. <br />Commissioner Bosch noted that the information was also available on the internet at "aMAZE - <br />Mi.ruleapolis Non-Profit..." and noted that a curriculurr� packet could also be purchased for a <br />nominal fee of approximately $50.00. <br />Com�nissioner Higbee noted that one of last year's essay contest winners discussed her life at home <br />with two morns. <br />Commissioner Bosch noted that the issue can get controversial, but the programming was more <br />broad-based that just GLTB issues; and opined her support and excitement about the curriculutn. <br />Chair Delmore opined that it would be good for the city to stir things up. <br />Commissioner Bosch, with approval of the HRC by consensus, offered to contact Ann Phibbs, for a <br />date in the spring when she would be available to present the Allied Trazniuig program to the HRC. <br />Coinmissioner McGehee suggested taping the presentation for availability for special training for <br />the Police Department or others. <br />Commissioncr Bosch noted that, as part of her graduatc study work, she could incozporate GLTB <br />training as part of her responsibilities and study. <br />Commissioner McGehee suggested that lkze training tape be of someone else, with Commissioner <br />Bosch simply facilitating discussion, to make the training more palatable to the community. <br />Commissioner Venters suggested putting the training tapc on Cable Channel 1 S. <br />Further discussion included possibly utilizing theater groups to tailor programs, with <br />Commissioners McGehee and Bosch identifying several groups. <br />
