Commissioner Smith agreed to coniact Susana DeLeon and Chuck Samuelson. <br />Commissioners agreed to ask Chair Thelma McKenzic to contact area Human Rights <br />Comrnissians. <br />�nvite Roseville Police to Police-Community Relations Training <br />Coinmissioners asked for a better explanation of the Police-Community Relations Training. <br />Carolyn Curti cxplained that the League of Minnesata Human Rights Cominissions has <br />developed a community relations training session. They have contacted ali chiefs o£police <br />throughout the state offering to help conduct humaxi rights training. The League has asked <br />local commissions to follow up with personat �etters to their chiefs of police. Commissioners <br />a�reed to ask Chair McKcnzic to follow up with a Ietter. <br />City Code of Nondiscrim�nation <br />Carolyn Curti reported that someone raised questions about vvhether the City of Roseville <br />included sexual arientation among the list of protecied classes in the City's Code. Curti found <br />that Section 204.03 of the Code states "....secure for all citizens equal opportunity in <br />employment, housing, public accomrnodations, public services and education and full <br />pa.rticipation in the affairs of this comrnunity by assisting the state department of human nights <br />in implementing the Mi_nnesota human rights act, Minnesota statutes section 363.01 et <br />seq.....�, <br />Section 1207.27 of the Code states "The franchisee shall at aIi times comply with the <br />provision of the City of Roseville Code and applicable state and federal law regarding <br />nondiscrirnination and civit rights. The franchisee, its agents, employees, contractors and <br />subconiractors shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, age, <br />sex, religion or disability in connection with its services provided pursuant to this Franchise <br />Ordinance." <br />Corrunissioners agreed that Section 1207.27 should be changed to reflect all protectcd classes. <br />They further agreed that the Code should make reference to thc Minnesota Human Rights Act <br />rather tha�n listing the protected classes. This would prevcnt having to make changes to the <br />Code if the state makes other changes to the Human Right Act. Commissioners directed <br />Carolyn Curti to draf� a Request for Council Action and to send the draft to Commissioners to <br />review bcfore it goes to the City Council. Curti indicated the RCA would likely not go to the <br />Council until late July. <br />Adjournment <br />Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. <br />� <br />
