February 10 - 7:OQ p.m. City Council Chambers. Human Rights Commission regular <br />meeting. <br />• February 21 - 1:0�-2:00 p.m. Roscville Library. Presentation of MLK Speech. <br />• February 23 - 7:00 p.m. City Council Charnbers. Rccognition of Essay Contest winners <br />followed by informal celebration in the lovc+er levcl of City Hall. <br />Haliday Ser�vice Project <br />Larry Voeller, Howa.rd Wagner and Steve Zorn commented that they enjoyed helping at the <br />December Holiday Party for Seniors. Steve Srnith, Karen Vnuk and Carolyn Curti also participated. <br />The Senior Center staff was very appreciative of the Commission's assistance. Particlants <br />recommend that the Commission take part in ihis project next year. It inereases the Commission's <br />visibility in the community. Coinmissioners discussed the possibiliiy of donate a hook about hurnan <br />rights for a door prize. Carolyn Curti passed around pictures takcn at the event. <br />Martin Lu#her King - I Have a Dream Presentation <br />Commissioners discussed publicity and finalized plans for the �'ebruary 21 event. Carol}m Curti <br />distributed the bookmark with suggested readings, a flyer and a poster to be distribu#ed to local <br />churches, businesses, civic leaders and others. The Roseville School District could distribute the <br />half page flyer to all students for a cost of approximately $15Q. Commissioners discussed the <br />possibility of the room being too small. However, after some discussion, Commissioners agreed <br />that will unlikely be a problem. <br />Mark Chapin moved and Larry Voeller seconded a motion to for the Commission to pay for the <br />flyer to be sent students in the Roseville Area Schools. Motion passed unanimously. <br />At lhe �ebruary 2 i event, Karen Vnuk will serve as emcee. She will introduce Mark Taylor who <br />will show a brief video frorn Eyes on the Prize and then perForm the speech. We will then have a <br />brief questian and answer penod. Karen will then introduce someone irom the Library who will tell <br />about Library resources on the Civil Rights Movement and Black History Month. Karen will <br />conclude with a brief description of Human Rights Commission. Comtnission will provide cookies <br />and punch. <br />HRC Procedures to Respond to Complaints <br />At the previous meeting, Commissioners discussed the roles and responsibilities for the Human <br />Rights Commission and how the Commission interacts with City staff and others. Cammissioncrs <br />continued this discussion. <br />Commissioner Delrnore askcd what the process is if someone has a camplaint. Chair McKenzie <br />explained that a person sends a writtcn complaint the Commission will take action. Generally, a <br />Commissioner(s) investigate the complaint to see if there are grounds for a complaint. Depending <br />upon the circumstances, the Commission wiIl refer to the state for action or affer support, <br />2 <br />
