a <br />City of Roseville <br />International Sister Citv Association <br />Minutes <br />Wednesday, May 7, 1997 <br />Present: James ans Joyce Boardson, Martha Hardesty, Jan Strootman, Tom and <br />Vfrginia Turba <br />Minutes: <br />1. Action items from previous meetings <br />a. Progress continues on developing a tri-fols info sheet. Tvo meetings <br />have been held to work on it along with Tvm's enhancements. A finished <br />product is near. <br />b. Grant peoposals: Martha, Jan, and Rita and Brad Mi11s wi11 write for <br />Shinmachi. Tom, in conjunction with the teachers will write for Costa <br />R�.ca. Guidelines from the previous proposal wiZJ. be followed. Due by <br />May 27. <br />c. Joyce has approached the library about having a copy of the Tico Times <br />available in the library. Concern raised is utilization of the magazine <br />and limited space for material. Joyce will research and get back to <br />the library. <br />d. Question was raised what our Fiscal year legally is. Our bylaws sa}r <br />Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. Carol will change her booking accordingly. <br />e. Nothing progressed on a parade entry. Caroi will call to see if it is <br />too late. If not, the suggestion was made to have a banner and s�udents <br />walking behind i.n Japanese/Costa Rican costumes. <br />2. Treasure report: status quo. Fiscal year as noted above. <br />3. Shinmachi: Jon Stiles and his daughter Holly, and Sr. High student Julie <br />Sackmann wi1.1 be leaving for Japan. Mr. and Mrs. Killian have recently <br />returned. HomesCays are progressing well with 10 students and two adults <br />coming in Aug. 5-15. Three students will go to Japan in July. Pete Zoller <br />�nglish teacher in Japan (replaces Nancy Meyer) will be coming here. <br />3. Costa Rica: Many books have been donated from Che Middle School. (There is <br />a possibzlity that they have to be sent to the MN. flood towns) The school <br />athletic department recommends that we deal with sports activities at the <br />city level. Tom has sent a letter to Cartago on this matter. Things are <br />progressing we11 on sending students to Cartago this summer. Tony Anderson <br />is also working on a trip in Feb. 1998, centering around eiectzons. {See <br />enclosed letter) Tom received a.n invitation to attend a tourist convention <br />in Costa Rica in June. He is not sble to go. Any onw interested in develop- <br />ing tourist activities and going should cont:,ct Tom_ No work, yet, on dates <br />for Costa Rica Days or the National Student Counci.l conventi.on in 1499. <br />4. Co�unity activities: Display case at libxary needs more brochures. <br />5. Old business: Jim develvped a proCoYype for a donation receipt. <br />b.
