CiCy of Roseville
Internatonal Sister City Committee
Minutes
ednesday, July 3, 1996
Present: James and Joyce Boardson, Charles Scott, Carol Stark, Jan Strootman.
Minutes:
1. Cartago: No news. There aze no plans for sending Rosevile students to
Cartaga at this time. No one present has heard anything about
students coming again for the 96-97 school year.
2. Shinmachi: There wi1 be 15 students (10 new) and 4 adults arriving Aug.S-15.
Principal Koucho Takemura will be representing the mayor of Shinmachi.
Nancy Meyer, our contact person in Japan, will also come.
Carol and Charles have worked on an agreement, which has been kept
simple and has been accepted by 5hinmachi representatives with the
help of Nancy Meyer. We need to decide how ths agreement will
look in final form for the signing in August. Hopefully, City Hall
will be able to help us with some suggestions. Along with being
kept simple, the agreement states that we wi1l work to continue the
homestays, and explore other avenues of exchange.
There will be a meeting at City Hall July 12, :q:00PM with Steve
North to work out plans for a dinner at which time the agreement
will be signed. Issues include who will be able to attend, where
held. A string quartet has offered to play during the dinner.
The Japanese students will have their native dress available, which
may aiso ofier an ntertainment opportunity. Publicitq also needs to
be explored. perhaps TV coverage as well as newspaper.
3. Other avenues of exchange may be adult teaching aspects, such as teaching
Japanese culture, or Japanese coming to increase their English skills.
4. Joyce found a store that sells used display cases. Those to be repaired
start at $100 or less. Used ones that are "ready Co use" start at $200 and
up. Jan mentioned that a case was built for the Senior graduaCion party and
then donated to the school. She will Iook into having one built for us before
we try to buy a used one.
5. Carol would like to thank all Sister Cty member for their help wirh the
Shinmachi arrival. Also, anyone interested and able to come to the July 12
meeting to help with plans is welcome.
6. Next meeting Augu 7, unless changed due to the Shinmachi arrzval. at City
Hall, 6:30 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Joyce Boardso , XJ
°`t'
