Roseville Sister City Association <br />Minutes <br />3une 12, 20Q1 <br />Present: Joyce and ,Tim Boardson, Mary Meyers, Jan Schultz, Caro1 Stark, Tom <br />and Virginia Turba. <br />Minutes: <br />1. Action items from previous meetings: Kwo Wei was not able to attend but did <br />leave info with Joyce that the Como Lantern Festival is August 12, starting <br />at 12N to late in the evening. Mary was going to bring a copy of her grant <br />proposal. She wi17. bring it next month. <br />2. Tresurer's repoxt: The 2000 Account Summary was presented by Tom. There <br />were a few unknowns that had to be resolved. <br />3. Shinmachi report: A group of 8 sCudents and 4 adults (with only Z adults to <br />continue beyond Tokyo) will be leaving July 17 to 31 for Japan. Ten students <br />and 4 adullts will be arriving from 3apan August 4-J.4. As in the past, the <br />.Tapanese wi11 be sraying in a hotel the first nighr. The group is pretty <br />well set with interpreters. However, if there is some other way you may hel.p, <br />such as with transportation, please call Patty DuBruycker, 484-68b7. <br />Mary announced that Carl Anderle recently pasted away from a brain tumor. <br />He was one of tt�e people instrumental in starting the Shinmachi group. <br />4. Costa Rica Report: Host families for 3 students attending the Great-American <br />5hoot-Out have been found. However, Tom stated that there is a good chance <br />that the basketball players will not come as soccer sounds like something they <br />are �ore interested in for nexr year. <br />Both Tom and Tony Anderson are planning trips to C.R. for the elections to heJ.d <br />Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002_ These are 2 separate trips which may joi.n together for <br />part of tile skay. Tom's group would be utilizing home--stays while Tony would <br />be using hotels for a one week trip, while Tom's would probably be 2 weelcs, <br />taking in Tortigaro. <br />5. New Business: New i11m wi11 be hosting the annual Sister City Canference for <br />MinnesoCa on Sat., Sept. 22, 2aQ1. <br />6. Informati.on Items: Joyce suggested we run another article in the papers to <br />try and increase membership, stressing such things as the yearly Japan trips. <br />She will contact the newspapers. <br />7. Parade: `Things are moving along, and time fast approaching the Rosefest <br />parade. Mary offered to help with cookies. A tractor is lined up to pull <br />the float that Jim will be putting together. Joyce has Children lined up so <br />no more chiidren are needed. Flap-bearers are a little lean. As in the past, <br />cookies, ice cream and pop urill be available at the end of the parade for all <br />participants and family members. <br />8.
