City of Roseville <br />Roseville Sister City Association <br />Minutes <br />April 7, 1999 <br />Present: James and Joyce Boardson, Stew Robertson, Barb Sackman, Kris 5immonson, <br />Jan SchulCz, John Sriles, Carol Stark, Tom and Virginia Turba. <br />Minutes: <br />1, Correction of March minutes - There will be a a basketball clinic held in <br />Cartago, but not in March, possibly in August. <br />2. Kris and 5tew report that Melania Martinez has settled in weXl aC their home. <br />She has become very skilled with �he Roseville bus system. With her English <br />classed finished, she has had her first days as a volunteer at Accel Acadamy <br />and Roseville Parks and Recreation. <br />3. Treasurer's report: There is approximately 4500.00 in the total account. In <br />addition, we were granted 2500.00 for the 5hinmachi group to go to Japan <br />fram the Roseville Community Fund. <br />4. Shinmachi: Homes are still needed for Japanese students coming here in <br />August. There will be eight, 5�eens and 3 adults, going to Shinmachi July <br />Ib-30. As mentianed, the Roseville Community Fund grant request was granted. <br />5. Costa Rica: Tom had a copy of Art on the Road, by Pogo Press available to <br />look at. It has many pictures of various painted modes of transportation <br />throughout the Central American ares, with many from C.R. Copies can be <br />ordered through Tom for $5.00. The KaChy Nelson family is hostfng the student <br />who has returned from Grand Marias, and wanting to sight-see here for 2 weeks <br />befqre returning to C.R. around April 15. Basketball - coaches may tame up <br />here around July 5 or 12 for a clinic. <br />6. The Rosefest parade is Monday, June 28. Jim has been working on float ideas. <br />Vo�unteers W�1i be needed. Candy will need to be solicited. (donations) <br />7. Recruiting HosC Families: Discussion on how to develop a list of host £amilies <br />Stew suggested that we deveiop a 4-fo1d, modifying our current 3-fold flyer <br />so that it could be used as a mailer for those interested in hosting. Copies <br />couZd be left at the library as they are now. Caral reminded us that we must <br />use caution in selecting host families. Tom suggested we try �o get a web si�e <br />through Roseveille for Sister City. <br />8. Fund raising - Discussion was held on ways money might be raised and who whould <br />get the monies/how would it be divided? There was general agreement that if one <br />group (C.R, vs Shinmachi) raised the monies, they should get it, or if it was <br />a group activity, it would be divided accordingly. Aiso, if a group was going to <br />to have a fund raising act�vity, the co�nmittee should know. Theze was general <br />agreement that soliciting fram individual businesses should be done as repre- <br />senting S.C. as a whole. We should also establish guidelines for fund raising. <br />Joyce will start applications for sales tax exempt status with MN. <br />9.
