City of Roseville <br />Roseville Sister City Assoc�.ation <br />Minutes <br />September 9, 1498 <br />Present: James and Joyce Boardson, Barbara Sackmann, Carol SCark, Tom and <br />Virginia Tuxba <br />Minutes: <br />1. Display case tags: not ava�.lable ta put in case. .Ioyce brought holders to <br />display plate-like items. <br />2. Treasurer's report: There is $4781.71 total in �he bank account which includes <br />$2000.00 from the Shinmachi visit Chis last August. Tom has received an <br />additional $2000.00 from the Costa Rican-Minnesota Foundation to be used toward <br />baskeCball activi�es with Cartago. Carol is working �o put the books in order. <br />3. Shinmachi: Barbara wi11 be taking over as lead for the group, coordinating <br />the home-stays with the help of othex group members. The home-stays in August <br />went well. <br />4. Costa Rica: Basketball acCivity grant, as mention above, has been received. <br />The Costa Rican Foundation will be hosting a reception after the Sept. 18th <br />Ordway presentation in celebration of their independance_ A display is being <br />requested. Tom will �ry to put something together. The young teacher is.still <br />hoping to aome to MN. to teach. Stew Roberts and Kris Simonson are pl.anning to <br />host part of the time, with the C.R.':'teacher sCaying with them part of the time. <br />Judy Janiak was looking into other hosting possibilities. Joyce wi11 see if <br />there is a possibility of Concord Acadamy for teaching. <br />5. In conjunCtion taith the finances, Joyce will start the process of getting a <br />�. tas-exemption wiCh the State of NIN. <br />v Barbara and Carol are looking for ways to get grants and donation to help pay <br />for airfare for students going to Japan next year. suggestions were: Frequent <br />flyer donations, Roseville Communi.ty Grant, Approach Nor�hwest Airlines for re-- <br />du�ed fares, approach the Japanese-American Ass./business community, check on <br />what is currently available with LTSTA, North Subu�cban Xouth Association, contact <br />the MN Trade Center/�xport business. There is also door-to-door soliciting, but <br />we need to get a booklet put together. �� <br />7: Ongoing business: .I3.m is still looking for pictures to put a"scrapebook" <br />together for soliciting. <br />S.
