Roseville Sister City Association Minutes of August 5, 1998 Members Present: Tom and Virginia Turba, Judi Janiak, Carol Stark, Rita Mills Guest: Steve Lindemer Treasurers Report: A grant from the Minnesota/Costa Rica Foundation was applied for and Tom reported that it will be received to assist in our efforts to have athletic exchanges between Roseville and Cartago. Shinmachi Report. Rita reported that the Japanese students had arrived Aug 5 and will be here until the 15th. Many activities have been planned. They will be giving the students a tour of the sites of St.Paul, Minneapolis and Roseville using the Rosevilte van. There are also other Japanese students here who were here other years arid the homestay program found housing for them. Several new host families were four�d and they are loaking %r a coordinator for ne� year. Costa Rica Report. The basketball players were here. They all enjoyed the time here even though they did not win many games. There was a great difference in the size of the players from Costa Rica and here. Another year they plan to only bring one team of older boys. The annual Costa Rican Independence Day celebration/reception will be September I 8, 1998 at the Ordway. The plan is to have a display at the reception, either a poster display or slide program or both. The 2] year old student who wants to improve her english, still wants to come and is willing to assist in teaching spanish in a school. Judi will check with a teacher fi-iend to see if she would be interested in hosting her. Guest: Steve Lindemer will be going to Costa Rica to teach english. He is interested in learning all he can about Costa Rica before he goes there and was surprised to learn of the sister city relationship between Roseville and Cartago.
