Community Activities: The parade went we1i, with an"ice cream social" at <br />the end being a nice closure. Suggesttions for next year include arranging <br />return transportation to the parade beginning which was not available this <br />year, maintaining the ice cream sociaZ, possible changing the car to a float, <br />and having more cand.y. There was 654� of candy, of which Boardson's paid <br />$63.00. A reimbursement request will be submitted to the Association. Next <br />year, we hope to start earlier for candy donations. <br />2. Action items: Na�hing new on display tags. <br />3. Treasure's zeport: Not available. <br />4. Shinmachi: We have received information pamphlets about home-stays activites <br />from Japan. The 5hinmachi group wi�1 decide what to do with Chem. No report <br />on th�s year's home-stays avazlable. It was that anyone able to help should <br />contact Rita Mills. <br />5. Costa Rica: Thank-yous were received fro� our visitors visi�ing the Turbas and <br />Goedekes. There wi1l be an annual Friendship City Committee dinner meeting <br />on Wednesday, July 8, 1998 at 6:OOp.m. st the St. 9ndrews �oom, Town and Counttry <br />Club. <br />Ati rhe time oL our meeting, 8 12y/os and 8 15/16 y/os along with 5-6 adults <br />are expected to come for the Great American Shoot 0ut - that's two teams. <br />John Goedeke has checked at some facilities, finding that Che studenCs could <br />stay at Bethel College fox $12 per night. Jim and Joyce will check the area <br />motels/hotels, Salvation Army Camp, and the Lutheran Youth Group for potential <br />Zodging. We wi11 try hard to find HomesCays. Food at other faciliCxes would <br />be an additzonal problem. Tom is expecting'more in£ormation from the GASO <br />organization soon. <br />Tom is sending in an application to the Costa Rica Minnesota Foundation for <br />a donation•to help support our basketball activities with Costa Rica. This <br />would include exchange activities, clinics, etc. <br />At this time, we are not able to find housing for the 20 y/o student that <br />would like to come in July and help teach at a local school. ConsequenCly, her <br />arrival is on hold. <br />6. Ongoing busines: Additianal money raising and onr scrape book plans were not <br />discussed. <br />7.
