Thus, the travel response times may actually be better than <br />records indicate for emergency calls. <br />Total Time — The total response time is referred to as the time elapsing between receipt <br />of the emergency cail and arrival of the responding unit to the scene of the incident. For <br />mathematical reasons, one cannot simply add the 90�' percentile call processing, turnout, and <br />travel time segments to reach the tota190°i percentile response time. Typically, the total response <br />time is calculated using the difference between ihe arrival time and the call received/alarm time <br />seg�nent. As previously rnentioned, however, RFD does not keep track of the time the call is <br />received. As a result, i:his precluded the total response time interval from being calculated and <br />analyzed in this study. <br />Recommendation 3: Monitor the time of which calls are initially received by E9II. This <br />would allow for accurate assessment of the total response time interval for RFD and to deterxnine <br />whether or not this segment complies with NFPA guidelines.2 <br />Standards and Compliance <br />NFPA 1710 — The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1710 offers benchmark <br />standards for response times. These nationally accepted guidelines are commonly used as a <br />performance goal for carecr fire departments.
