Training <br />RFD has made significant progress in the level anc� quality of training for our members. <br />Thc training staff makes a significant commitment of time toward training new membcrs. <br />As wcll, all cxisting members are required to participate in a substantial arnount of <br />training annually to maintain thcir compeiency in this very hazardous vocation. <br />Professionalism is attained through diligent training. The progressive training goals <br />implemented throughout 2000 and 2001 vvill continuc for the duration of this strategic <br />planning period. <br />Obj ectives <br />• Develop and implement training programs that continue to utilize contracts and <br />working relations with the St. �'aul Fire Department and Minneapolis Fire <br />Department for the use of the�z training facilities and supporting training officers. <br />• Develop and implement a program io review and revisc the member mentoring <br />program and conduct training for all mentors. <br />• Develop and implement an officers rxzentoring program. <br />• Develop and implement a schedule to conduct recruit training classes to meet <br />forecasted attrition. <br />• Develop and implement a program to conduct training an-shift. <br />• Develop and implement a list of training progra.ms that should be conducted on an <br />annual basis for all members. <br />• Devclop and implcment a comprehensive defensive driving course for members. <br />• Develop and implement a program to conduct or host an instructional <br />methodologies course (instructor's course) for all officers who have not had this <br />class and ensure that all officers become certified instructors. <br />• Develop and implement a pro�-am to document the qualifications for each captain <br />and chief officer ensuring they meet or exceed the NFPA standard for Fire Officer <br />II (Fire Officer III for chief officers) and Fire Irnstructor II. <br />• Develop and implement a program to docuxr�ent the qualifications for each <br />lieutenant ensuring they meet or exceed the NFPA standard for Fire Officer I and <br />Fire Instructor I. <br />• Dcvclop and implement a program to ensure that all xn�embers receive initial <br />training or refreshcr training on Incident Management and �re/rescue tactics <br />classes annually. <br />• Develop and implement a program to facilitate and host regional semiz�.ars where <br />nationally recognized speakers will prescnt topics that will benefit the Roseville <br />Fire Department. <br />• Develop and implement a program to host National Fire Acaderny regional <br />delivery programs. <br />39 <br />
