Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, May 07, 2007
Page 15

Councilmember Pust volunteered to work with staff alone or with a
subcommi ttee and return to the City Council with more formal rec-
ommendations and ideas.

Councilmember Pust, regarding the community survey, opined that
she would need to be really convinced of how to achieve sufficient
and quality feedback. Councilmember Pust opined that she was not
supportive of a survey; and that it would be more prudent for the City
Council to set the groundwork on the direction the City was to take,
sooner rather than later, and then create materials from the City Coun-
cil's set goals and priorities, rather than sending mixed messages.

Councilmember Roe concurred that it made sense to get the message
right from the beginning, to set the tone for the rest of it. Council-
member Roe expressed his interest in working with and participating
with staff on developing communication tools as well, and had some
specific thoughts on a sample brochure. Councilmember Roe con-
curred that a survey would be considered a long-term goal for him.

Communications Specialist Tim Pratt, designer of the draft flyer, ar-
rived at this time, and noted that the draft was not definitive and staff
was seeking City Council feedback; and expressed staff s interest in
working with a subcommittee.

Councilmember Roe noted that any final flyers or decisions would
need to come before the full City Council for formal action.

Councilmember Kough, noting the aging demographics of the com-
munity, opined the need for a community center, as had been one of
his campaign pledges to the community when running for elected of-
fice.

Mayor Klausing summarized discussions by noting that the City
Council liked what they saw in the initial draft flyer, but wanted more
involvement in fine-tuning the flyer; and discussion needed to be held
on how to fund the flyer.

e.
