Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, Jnne 11, 2007
Page 20

Douglas Root, 2468 N Hamline A venue
Mr. Root thanked the CAG for their recommendations, opining that
they were precise and relatively clear, thus allowing the public the
ability to comment on them, since people were able to understand
what was being recommended. Mr. Root observed that the alternate
recommendations were also very clear, and apparently had the support
of a number of citizens. Mr. Root opined that, while he didn't wish to
take anything away from the work of the CAG and staff, he was sup-
portive of the alternate recommendations.

Mr. Root made several observations:
1) He didn't think the CAG got to the crux of the issue, and wasn't
sure if they were expected to within their time constraints; and
noted the speed at which a neighborhood's character could evolve,
whether drastically or during the typical neighborhood life cycle,
and how that could be determined by supporting a sliding scale
based on contiguous lot sizes.
2) Opined that more consideration be given to specific areas, with
zoning laws taking that into account and allowing for different
standards, and since this could be cumbersome, additional study
was prudent.
3) Opined that the map used by the CAG showing which lots were
subdividable was a good piece of information, and should be for-
mally updated as to accuracy by the Community Development De-
partment staff and made available for public information.

Al Sands, 2612 Aldine
Mr. Sands summarized his written comments, provided by Bench
Handout, as a memo to the City Council. Mr. Sands encouraged the
Council to "do this right and don't rush into it; and protect existing
neighborhoods without destroying their nature."

Tam McGehee, 77 Mid Oaks Lane
Ms. McGehee presented written comment via two Bench Handouts,
entitled "Lot Split Policy Recommendations - May, 2007," and
Summary of Lot Split Comments Before the City Council - June 11,
2007 - Tam McGehee," including her response to City staffs re-
