Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, June 11,2007
Page 21

sponse to her recommendations as previously presented and included
as an attachment to the May 21, 2007 City Council meeting minutes.

Ms. McGehee summarized her comments and original recommenda-
tions; opining that her original recommendations #1 and #2 were not
necessary as long as City Code remained the same. Ms. McGehee
further opined that public notification comments come up regularly,
and should be addressed for consistency by City Council policy.

Ms. McGehee opined that recommendation #4 was the most important
piece, and represented the heart of why the alternatives were prepared
and provided to the City Council; because people care about their
neighborhoods and the character of those neighborhoods, and didn't
want their character diminished. Ms. McGehee cited specific exam-
ples of how large lots protected environmental and noise issues in a
neighborhood (i.e., Gluek Lane and Acorn Road). Ms. McGehee
cited zoning areas in other cities, opining that staff could make lot
computations as suggested in the alternate recommendations, without
them becoming onerous, and further opined that this would be a rea-
sonable approach, allowing for growth and change, while fitting the
roles of specific neighborhoods and maintaining their character.

Ms. McGehee further opined that the CAG hadn't sufficiently studied
or provided comment on lot recombination to ensure that the public
had a clear understanding of them, in addition to understanding
Planned Unit Developments (PUD's) and related issues. Ms. McGe-
hee opined that 90 days was not sufficient study time for the many is-
sues and considerations, along with overarching issues and other lot
considerations; thus creating the need for the alternate recommenda-
tions and the signatures of the 69 people who felt strongly enough to
present a second point of view to the City Council, and was not pre-
sented as a petition, but the signatures were meant to lend weight to
the alternative recommendations.

Marilyn Rose, 2100 Fernwood Street
Ms. Rose expressed hope that when another study group was formu-
lated, more people would volunteer to serve. Ms. Rose recognized the
time commitment from those serving on the CAG, and their consid-
eration of the issue and citizen-majority concerns expressed.
