August 15, 2012
Item 5 2 b
Outreach Committee
attorney talking about the legal perspective, what it looks like in other states, likelihood of the
courts intervening etc., progressive clergy on religious views, and someone from project 515
presenting a review of how marriage laws discriminate.
We're trying to avoid obviously partisan presenters. I think "educational presentations" could be
factual and informative, rather than partisan - the outcome/message speaks for itself !
We have capacity for 300, it will be well-promoted, and we hope to broadcast it live on
government access cable TV to NE suburbs. Let me know what you think and if you have any
questions.
We are still planning the "Voter ldentification Forum" for the October 9 HRC meeting. It will be a
busy month but these constitutional amendments will be on the ballot in the November elections,
whether or not we like the timing.
If we cancel the marriage forum for September, we have an opening for a September HRC topic
at the regular HRC meeting on September 11. Suggestions for topics?
Thanks! Jon
In a message dated 8/6/2012 8:45:43 P.M. So if you have any overview more recent I would appreciate
an update by the end of this Wednesday.
Also has your commission gotten to the point of deciding whether you would like us to
cosponsor this series of fall programs? If so please advise me at your earliest convenience
so we can discuss it as a commission on August 15th. Also a Roseville donation is not out of the
question if you need some financial help. I recall we contributed $50 to the Shoreview Human
Rights Commission when we cosponsored their two programs on the Elderly and the Prevention
of Elder Abuse.
Wayne and the Outreach Committee will be taking the lead on this, but I need to finalize our
agenda and meeting packet in the next two days, which is why I am contacting you
directly.
Gary Grefenberg, Chair
Roseville Human Rights Commission
645-6161
