1 2 3 City Council Study Session Monday, July l.b, 2007 Page 7 and anticipated Council directive to Commissions follow:ing that review. 4 Councilmember Pust opined her desire for advisory commis- 5 sion involvement and input running a parallel track along with 6 staff and City Council review of the 42-page document devel- 7 oped by staff, listing short- and long-term goals, particularly 8 with prioritizing. 9 10 Councilmember Roe concurred with Councilmember Pust's 11 comments; encouraging brainstorming by advisory commi s- 12 sions to allow the City Council to have more znformation and 13 ideas, as well as pxiorities an implementation suggestions, I4 available for informed consideration and decision-making proc- 15 esses and how goals of each specific commission were incorpo- 16 rated with the community's vision. 17 18 Mr. Johnson advised that the Commission would await direc- 19 tion from City Manager Malinen through Parks and Recreation 20 Director Brokke. 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 Additional discussion included advantages and disadvantages in pursuing a city sales tax for regional park and recreation needs; perceptions and actual impac�s of sales taxes versus property taxes on senior citizen popuiations; and potential impacts on the business community, as well residents, t� alternatives. 28 Councilmember Ihlan expressed her support for pursuing a 29 bond re�erendum, seeking additional information on impacis to 30 businesses and residents and comments from each as to their 3 ]. 32 33 34 35 36 support.
