CiLy Council Study Session <br />Manday, July 16, 2007 <br />Page 8 <br />1 of researching and updating comparison rates in other commu- <br />2 nities to provide a norm, and anticipaied bringing that updated <br />3 information and more solid research to the City Council in No- <br />4 vember of this year. <br />5 <br />6 Depreciation <br />7 Mr. Johnson brought forward an additional non-agenda item re-- <br />S lated to asset depreciation to equalize future needs and legacies. <br />9 Mr. Johnson opined ihat, as responsible servants of the commu- <br />10 nity and looking to future generations, it was imperative that the <br />11 City provide n annual sinking fund for equipment and facilities; <br />12 and opined that had this been done initially, the department <br />13 wouldn't be facing annual budgetary spikes. <br />14 <br />15 Mayor Klausing concurred, and no�ed that Finance Director <br />15 Chris Miller proposed depreciation schedules for park equip- <br />17 ment and �acilities. <br />18 <br />19 Councilmember Pust noted the bala.nce in current needs versus <br />20 future needs, and how setting aside funds for future improve- <br />21 ments impacted cu�rrent needs; emphasizing the need for de- <br />22 fined revenue sources, and expressing appreciaiion to the <br />23 Commission for taking that initiative in identifying potential <br />24 options. <br />25 <br />26 Councilmember Kough asked due diligence from the Commis- <br />27 sion and department to ensure that safety was a number one <br />2g priority for City equipment and facilities. <br />29 <br />30 Mayor Klausing thanked the Commission for their succinct and organized <br />31 presentation and on behalf of the City Cauncil, staff and citizens, for their <br />32 continuing work on b�half of the City of Roseville and its Park and Recrea- <br />33 tion Department. <br />34 <br />35 6.
