b. On the entry level eligible register, new candidates can be addcd and co-mingled <br />according io their final score, provided thc examination proccss for the new <br />candidates was similar to the process used for thc existing candidates. Their new <br />ranking shall be effective as of the date the last new candidate{s) are placed on the <br />eligible register. A candidate properly listed on the eligible register who takes a <br />subsequent examinarion �or the same position, sha11 be ranked according to his score <br />on the s�bsequent examination. The eligibiliiy of a candidate for appointment shall <br />continue for a period of one year from the certification date and sha11 thez� <br />automatically terminate and his/her name shall be stz-�cken from the eligible register. <br />c. All applicants shall be notified in writing of the results of the exami.nations and of thc <br />applicant's xelative standing on the appropriate registers. <br />d. The name of an applicant may bc stricken from the eligible register for any of the <br />reasons set forth in Minn. Statute 419.06(6). <br />9. FILLING VACANCIES <br />a. Vacamcies shall first bc filled by recalling officers laid off or reduced from the <br />position ta he filled. A laid off oi�cer shall have two weeks from receipt of written <br />notice of recall in which to rcport. <br />b. Whenever a vacancy occurs which cannot be filled by recalling an eligible officer <br />from layoff, the City Manager shall ask the Commission to certify the three names <br />standing highest on the appropriate register to fill the vacancy. The Commission <br />shall do so forthwith. The City Manager shall then fill the vacancy by ck�oosing one <br />of thc persons so certified, or shall request a second list. <br />c. When a disparity exists between the make-up of the police department and the City's <br />affirmative action goals, the Commission may certify up to t�vo eligible candidates <br />from cach proiected group for which a disparity exists. This certification is in <br />addition Eo the three candidates certified under 8(b} above and will be made from the <br />list of eligible candidates who have successfully completed the examination. The <br />names will be certifieci in the order of their standing in the examination. This section <br />�oes not apply to promotional appointments. <br />10. PROBATIONARY PERIOD <br />a. Orzginal appointments shall be followed by a probationary period of twelve months <br />commencing on the date of hire. During such probationary period, the City Manager, <br />after setting forth his or her reasons in writing to the Commission, xnay terminate the <br />probationary police officer. <br />4 <br />
