E- Initial Inte i w fi-u tured <br />1} Seiection of Candidates: The number of people conf:inuing to the intervievrt <br />portion of the selection process will depend on the numher of positions to be fill�d, <br />inciuding openings anticipated in the neaz fut�re due to retirements or other <br />circumstances. The Department Secretary wil� notify in writing all candidates who <br />pass both the written examination and the physical qualif cation test, but only the <br />number specified based on hiring needs wilI be invited to contact the Department to <br />ar�'ange an oral interview. <br />The specified number wiil be chosen from the top Preiiminary W�ighted Average <br />scores based upon the written examination {including Veteran's Preference points) <br />and the Supplemental Questions score, weighted at 40% and 60%, respectivety. <br />2) Oral Interview Board: The Oral Interview Boazd will consist of at least ane <br />supervisor, one civilian (preferab�y a Civil Service Commissaoner) 1nd.one.patrol <br />officer. <br />3) Interview Questions: Questions to be asked of each candidate are <br />determined by the Chief af PoIice or his/her designee; input will be sought and <br />considered from other members of the Department. The questions will be designed <br />to elicit information ab4ut the candidate's i�owledge of law en%rcement issues and <br />pracedures, problem-solving ability, attitude about the job and the agency, and <br />ability to communi�t�., Candidates are asked the same questions in the same order. <br />4) Scoring Oral Interviews: Each member of the Oral Interview Board vyill <br />grade each applicant on a pre-determined rating scale and a composite score will he <br />determined for each candidate. <br />F• w es <br />Eac.h candidate wiil be asked to arrive 30 to 60 minutes eariy for his/her scheduled <br />�t�eW time- During that time, ti�e candic�ate will be asked to respond in writing <br />to, a question or situation in order to rate the candidate's ability to communicate <br />effectively and accurately in writing. <br />G. Fi a We' ted vera e Sco es <br />After completion of the Inirial Interviews, Final Weighted Average scores wili be <br />calculated for each candidate interviewed. The weighting of each element is <br />estabIished by the Civil Service Commission and is currently as foIlows: <br />Preliminary Weighted Avg. 30% <br />Writing Sample 1 p <br />InitialOralInterview 60 <br />Total 100% <br />#32/3 <br />
