PROMOTIONAL PItOCESS: SERGEANT <br />June, 1997 <br />Com oncnts <br />1. Role Play: Candidates will bc asked to role play various situations which they would be <br />expected to encountcr in their new position; purpose is to identify management style and <br />lcadership capabilitics, and to sce how candidate handlcs himself/herself in various non- <br />planned situations. <br />2. In-Basket Exercise: Each candidate is given an in-basket with a variety of items in it; a <br />distracting event will occur during the time allotted for this exercise; purpose is to judge <br />ability to set priorities, identify inter-relatedness of daia, deal with distractions, work <br />cfficiently and cffcctively. <br />3. Candidate's Presentation of Qualifications: At the start of #hc Oral interview, each <br />candidate will be asked to give a brief (10 min.) presentation on his/her background and <br />qualifications for the position. Candidates may prepare this presenEation in advance. <br />4. Oral Interview: Each candidate will be interviewed by a panel consisting of three non- <br />department people, all at the rank of sergeant or higher. Each candidate will be asked the <br />same questions in the same order; all questions are job related. <br />5.
