The open regular commissioner's seat due to Thelma McKenzie's resignation was also <br />186 posted and applications would be accepted through October l Otn <br />1s7 <br />188 Chair Grefenberg questioned if the youth commission position should be delayed to allow for <br />l 89 further applicants. He asked if staff had advertised the open position. Ms. Curti said the position <br />190 had been advertised in a number of ways throughout the City, along with emails sent to teachers <br />191 and advisors. <br />192 <br />193 <br />194 <br />195 <br />196 <br />197 <br />198 <br />199 <br />200 <br />20l <br />202 <br />203 <br />204 <br />205 <br />Zo6 <br />Commissioner Thao was in favor of postponing the deadline to allow for an additional two <br />weeks of recruitment. <br />Chair Grefenberg suggested contacting the Roseville High School-sponsored minority groups to <br />seek additional applicants interested in serving as youth commissioners on the HRC. <br />Commissioner Singleton asked how long the deadline had been running. Ms. Curti stated the ad <br />has been posted for one month. <br />Commissioner Thao moved and Chair Grefenberg seconded a motion to postpone the youth <br />application deadline for two weeks, to Friday, October 5, 2012. Motion passed unanimously. <br />New Business <br />207 Discussion with certain Roseville residents and City ofticials regarding police procedures in <br />208 responding to calls involving mentally or emotionally challenged individuals: Chair <br />209 Grefenberg stated the purpose of this agenda item was to create awareness and understand the <br />210 Commission's role under its human rights � and civic engagement charges. He said situation <br />21 l had occurred last February involving a suicida] individual. <br />212 <br />213 � Grefenberg commented that the SWAT board had subsequently reviewed the case and issued <br />214 a report. He added that at the Commission's recent joint meeting with the City Council several <br />215 Council members had spoken favorably of the Human Rights Commission playing a role in <br />216 facilitating the fair and equal provision of emergency services to those mentally or emotionally <br />217 challenged. He encouraged Commission members to review the information and listen to the <br />218 discussion on this case to be provided by the Roseville residents involved in this February <br />2l9 incident, in order to assist emergency service providers in future similar cases. <br />220 <br />221 Chair Grefenberg requested that Roseville resident Mary Lou Moen begin the discussion, <br />222 encouraged that all members participating be open and honest. <br />223 <br />224 Mary Lou Moen thanked the Commission for providing a forum for discussing this issue. She <br />225 indicated that she appreciated the fact that the Police Department was seeking training in this <br />226 area.
