Outreach Committee: Chair Grefenberg said he recently received an invitation
addressed to the Roseville HRC from the City of Shoreview to attend a discussion on
intergenerational relationships and stereotypes. He questioned who would be willing
to attend on behalf of the HRC. Commissioner Groff encouraged a Commissioner to
participate in the planning of this event, as invited by the Shoreview Commission to
do so.
Vice Chair Brisbois volunteered to attend the event. Discussion ensued regarding the
benefits of co- sponsoring the Shoreview event which, the Chair clarified Shoreview
was not necessarily requesting. Commissioner Groff added that last years
cosponsorship of Shoreview's Elderly Abuse programs was appreciated.
Chair Grefenberg requested the Outreach Committee to update the Roseville HRC
flyer. He requested that if the Committee thought it needed updating he would like a
new flyer for the April 30th Dialogue and May 11th New American Forum.
Youth Commission Task Force Report: No Youth Commissioners being present
there
was no report.
Other Items: Chair Grefenberg reported he and Carolyn Curti had recently met
with Rachel Orville of the Bush Foundation which, in collaboration with the
Meadowlark Foundation, was funding the Commission's Community Dialogues on
Violence. They discussed an on -going relationship between the HRC and the
Foundation.
Grefenberg also distributed to the Commission a March 19th E -Mail he had received
from Ms. Orville regarding a workshop -being held at Macalester on hosting
community dialogues. The event, sponsored by the non - profit Social Innovation Lab
and entitled From Conversation to Transformation cost $25 per person and would be
four hours in length on Thursday, May 9, 2013. He stated he was interested in
attending. Commissioner Doneen said she would also be willing to attend.
Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Brisbois seconded a motion to allocate
up to but no more than $100 to allow representatives of the HRC -to attend the
community dialogue training at Macalester College on May 9, 2013. Motion passed
unanimously.
STRATEGIC PLANNING: Draft Plan for 2013 -2014
Evaluation of 2012 Achievements: Mr. Grefenberg briefly reviewed the HRC's
achievements during the past year, noting that the Commissioners had received an
evaluation, entitled Current Status Review, in their meeting packet.
Consideration of 2013 -2014 Strategic Plan: Chair Grefenberg referred the
Commission's attention to a worksheet in their packet entitled Human Rights
Commission Strategic Plan 2013 -2014, and provided some additional detail. He
commented he tried to simplify the information and then requested comments or
questions from the Commissioners.
Vice Chair Brisbois thanked Chair Grefenberg for creating the Worksheet.
