Throughoutthe year, more than 2,670volunteers providemore than 27
thousand hours of time to delivercritical supportin hundreds of individual events and more than
35 project areas including:
Special events
such as the New Years Celebration, Earth Day,Rosefest and Rose Parade,
Run/Roll for the Roses,Tour de Roses and Spooktacular Saturday among others.
Parkssupport
including project areas suchas the Adopt-A-Park program, park flower
garden maintenance and the Arboretum Green Team.
Recreation and enrichment programs
such as Youth Coaching, Performances in the
Park and many positions at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center.
Community associations and affiliated groups
including event coordinators, coaches ,
theater cast and crew and band members
Now isthe critical time.
Thespirit ofvolunteerism and community engagement has been one of the driving forces behind
the development of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Renewal Program. We expect that
volunteer involvement and support will only grow as we move forward, requiring increased
management and organization from staff.
Simply stated, we need the support of a volunteer coordinator to:
Act as liaison between stakeholder groups such as Parks and Recreation staff, Roseville
residents and neighborhoods, the city and our volunteers.
Become the central point of contact for city and department staffs and Roseville citizens
with respect to volunteer engagement.
Recruit,interview and place volunteers.
Maintain or develop tools for scheduling and trackingvolunteer time to maximize
efficiency and acknowledge the gift of time from the volunteers.
Enhance and support volunteer retention and recognition.
Coach and assist event coordinators and other volunteers to set up projects.
Work with local businesses, churches, schools, civic organizations and summer teen
programs to create engaging and memorable events.
1
