However,
Commissioner Martinson expressed concern with buses picking up and/or dropping
off people so close to immediately adjacent residential backyards; and questioned
why riders couldn't walk to a more central location further away from residential
properties.
Mr. Gross noted the need to alert those unfamiliar with the area, of the dead end on
Burke, to avoid further traffic congestion and potential safety issues and disruption.
Mr. Gross questioned what impacts had been observed at other sites related to noise.
Mr. Paschke advised that staff had not been made aware of noise issues; and
apparent lack of issues at other sites actually prompted consideration of further park
and ride lots.
Mr. Stark concurred that when he'd sought input from the Fire and Police
Departments, neither had indicated any incidents or areas of concern to them related
to existing park and ride sites.
Mr. Gross questioned the size of the on-site maintenance staff provided by the State
Fair.
Mr. Grans advised that each site had 6— 8 people for 8 hour shifts.
Mr. Paschke encouraged residents to contact staff with any difficulties they realized at
any of the sites to allow staff to address them.
Dick Durgen, 1048 Parker Avenue
Mr. Durgen respectfully requested consideration for relocating the on site collection
point to reduce impacts to the residential neighborhood.
Bob Buschinski, 1040 Parker Avenue
Mr. Buschinski questioned the size of the buses; and questioned why the pick-
up/drop-off point couldn't be provided at the vacant fuel station on the corner, rather
than immediately adjacent to a residential area.
Mr. Paschke advised that the vacant site would be difficult for a bus to maneuver, in
addition to not providing a safe pedestrian walkway along Lexington, and was unsure
if staff could support that location.
Chair Bakeman closed the Public Hearing for Planning File 0-017.
Additional discussion between Commissioners and Mr. Grans included the State
Fair's policy that all bus layovers and breaks are done at their Como transit area,
rather than on sites, with the exception of loading and unloading idling.
