Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />June 19, 2013 Draft Minutes <br />Page 2 of 6 <br />48 Grefenberg continued that subsequent to her resignation former Commissioner Kris Doneen had <br />49 met with him and had also written several Council members elaboratin� on her experience as a <br />50 Human Rights Commissioner. Her main reason for resi n�ing remained her sense of burnt-out; <br />51 because of this ex�erience, however, Grefenberg added that he believed certain operational <br />52 changes needed to be made to better achieve the HRC's objectives without the stress which often <br />53 seemed to accompan_y its worlcload. <br />54 <br />55 Grefenber�reported that he had therefore he had written Cit_y Manager Trud�eon and the <br />56 Council to ask for their consideration of the following four measures: 11 Commission staff need <br />57 to assume more of the administrative and or a�� work of the Commission ; <br />58 �t�����t v�==r*�t�c,��•��-�r'�'^��a ��r� t-� 2) In order to be sustainable the Commission <br />59 needs to better prioritize its work; 3) �T° r°^^��°r�'°�' The Council needs to take action on the <br />60 Commission's recommendation to create a new Coinmission to assume the Civic Enga�ement <br />61 responsibilities which the HRC currently shoulders; and 4) ^r°^*° ^�'����^ �'��^�°�°�* 'T'^�'� <br />62 . Staff needs to proactively seek our wa.�� <br />63 su�port the Commission's worlc. <br />64 <br />65 Grefenber� asked if there were an�questions or issues any Commissioner wished to raise. There <br />66 bein �� he �'?���-- �'r°�_.^'�°ra indicated he had discussed these concerns with the new Interim <br />67 City Manager Pat Trudgeon and he was here this evening to provide further comment. <br />68 <br />69 Interim City Manager Trudgeon ����� expressed his a�preciation for the invitation to this <br />70 evening's meeting. He reassured the HRC t#a�of the City's �T�^� ^^���++°a commitment to the <br />71 HRC and �as had not lost sight of the support required. He stated that there would be some <br />72 transition �*^�'�'�T�^� �T�^�•'�g over the next few months to guarantee the appropriate resources <br />73 were in place. He'^^'�°�' ��=�^ra reminded the Commission that it had an �e-� upcoming joint <br />74 meeting'�°�HRC and the City Council. <br />75 <br />76 Chair Grefenberg thanked Mr. Trudgeon and Ms. Curti for updating the Con�mission's web site <br />77 in order to be con�ruent with �g the recently-approved HRC brochure and bylaws �€ <br />78 � ' . <br />79 �� <br />80 <br />81 Approve Minutes <br />82 Commissioner Groff moved and Chair Grefenberg seconded a motion to approve a portion of the <br />83 minutes from April 17, 2013 (lines 192-221) as amended. Motion passed unanimously. <br />84 <br />85 Chair Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Becker seconded a motion to approve the May 15, <br />86 2013 meeting minutes as distributed. Motion passed (Singleton and Thao abstained because <br />87 they were not present at the May 15`n ) <br />88 <br />89 Public Comment <br />90 There being no one present wishing to speak to the Commission on an item not on the agenda, <br />91 the chair moved to the next agenda item. <br />92 <br />
