She expressed the opinion that the <br />231 impact of these code requirements could be troubling to others as well as the Karen, mentioning <br />232 that economic disparities affecting residents could negatively impact others. <br />233 <br />234 Further Discussion and Commission Action: The Chair drew the Commission's <br />235 attention to the Grefenberg /Groff recommendation contained in their September 12, 2013, <br />236 Background & Recommendation Report. ' <br />237 <br />238 <br />239 <br />240 fThis recommendation reads as follows: <br />241 Recommendation: We recommend the Commission continue to develop a collaborative <br />242 relationship with the Karen Organization of Minnesota and the Karen Community. Therefore we <br />243 are also recommending that we revise Work Plan 97a above to be less specific and thus allow the <br />244 Commission and the Karen Community to mutually consider any of the possibilities listed in the <br />245 attached Summary, or similar efforts, prior to determining a course of action. <br />246 We therefore recommend the Commission amend its 2013 -2014 Work Plan as follows: <br />247 7) Focus on ethnic minorities including new immix ants <br />248 a. Chair Grefenberg agreed with this suggestion, referring the Commission to <br />257 <br />258 Youth Commissioner Thomas, referring to recommendation # 5, explained how a recent theater <br />259 project had addressed race and stated she would be willing to continue this conversation at <br />260 school. <br />261 <br />262 Chair Grefenberg asked who was willing to serve on the Karen Initiative. He anticipated that <br />263 Commissioners Becker and Groff would be <br />264 involved, as would Commissioner Thao regarding conversations with the School District, <br />265 Collaboration Item #3 (see above). <br />266 <br />267 Commissioner Becker enquired about the Open Meeting Law issue since four commissioners <br />268 would constitute a quorum.
