Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />October 16, 2013 <br />Page 2 of 9 <br />Line 358 Commissioner Singleton stated his thoughts would be to have the pilot program funded by <br />Line 359 outside sources and would not begin until 2015 2014 . <br />Grefenberg then moved to amend the minutes by the addition of the following language (in red) <br />beginning on line 362 on page 9 of the draft minutes as found in the Commission's meeting <br />packet. That amendment is a follows: <br />Ln 361 Chair Grefenberg requested staff seek additional information on funding sources or grants that <br />362 may be available to the City of Roseville for human rights for such purposes as the Office of Human Rights <br />& Civic Engagement suggestion of Commissioner Sin_ lei ton. Staff Liaison Curti agreed to do so. [Make a <br />new paragraph of the following sentence] - Grefenberg also sugges asked that <br />363 Commissioners receive business cards for official use and op be., tcsy at future events <br />364 the 14 C in the Commission's outreach efforts. <br />365 <br />366 Commissioner Groff agreed with this recommendation. Commissioner Singleton commented he <br />367 knew of a Roseville business that was willing to provide business cards at a reduced rate for the <br />368 HRC. <br />369 <br />370 Staff Liaison Curti said she would raise this request with City Manager Trudgeon. <br />Commissioner Singleton moved and Commissioner Groff seconded a motion to approve the <br />minutes of September 18, 2013 as distributed in the meeting packet and as amended by Singleton <br />and Grefenberg. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Public Comment <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Commission on an item not on the agenda, <br />the chair moved to the next agenda item. <br />Old Business <br />Community Conversation Program <br />Presentation by Advocates for Human Rights: Chair Grefenberg explained that in September <br />the Commission had recommended the Program Planning Committee pursue holding a <br />community conversation with immigrants in cooperation with the organization Advocates for <br />Human Rights with the expense not to exceed $300. He indicated Madeline Lohman with <br />Advocates for Human Rights (AHR) was present this evening to provide the Commission with <br />an overview on AHR and a presentation on Community Conversations. <br />Madeline Lohman provided the Commission with a handout noting the Advocates for Human <br />Rights was a non - profit organization based out of Minneapolis that has been in operation for the <br />past 30 years. Migrants' and women's human rights were main focuses, along with human rights <br />education. Ms. Lohman discussed Advocates state -wide project called One Voice Minnesota and <br />recently completed, and was continuing encouraging communities to be welcoming and <br />inclusive, often in cooperation with local human rights commissions. In the course of this work <br />AHR found itself training local groups and developing models and best practices for <br />organizations working with immigrants in diverse communities. <br />
