Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />October 16, 2013 <br />Page 8 of 9 <br />Notice of Election of New HRC Officers: Chair Grefenberg noted that pursuant to the <br />Commission's By -laws the November 20 meeting would include the election of Chair and Vice <br />Chair. He reiterated that he would not be- seeking reelection, and enquired as to Vice Chair <br />Brisbois intentions. She replied that she also would not be seeking reelection. <br />The Chair asked that any person interested in running for either of these two positions let him <br />know before the November 20th meeting so if necessary he could propose some procedures in <br />case there was a contested contest. He indicated he was aware of one commissioner's interest in <br />the position of chair, and another in the position of Vice Chair. <br />Vice Chair Brisbois moved and Commissioner Singleton seconded a motion nominating Wayne <br />Groff as Chair of the Human Rights Commission. Chair Grefenberg allowed the nomination <br />with the understanding that other nominations would also be accepted at the November meeting. <br />The nomination was accepted by Commissioner Groff. <br />Commissioner Groff moved and Vice Chair Brisbois seconded a motion nominating Scot Becker <br />Vice Chair of the Human Rights Commission. The nomination was allowed by the Chair with <br />the provision that other vice chair nominations would also be accepted at the November HRC <br />meeting. Commissioner Becker accepted the nomination. <br />Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Planning Cultural Festival during Rosefest 2014 <br />Chair Grefenberg indicated that Youth Commissioner Joan Dao had advised him that she would <br />not be able to make any further meetings this calendar year, but was willing to work by phone <br />with the other Youth Commissioners and Ad Hoc Committee members Jill Brisbois and Kaying <br />Thao in planning her suggested Cultural Festival for next year's Rosefest. <br />Grefenberg added that he had asked Staff Liaison Curti to make preliminary contact with the <br />Roseville Parks Department to determine what initial steps were needed to proceed with the <br />incorporation of this HRC event into the Parks Department- organized Rosefest. <br />Ms. Curti reported that she had talked with the Parks Department Jill Anfang who told her that <br />her department could only provide the venue and the publicity if the HRC wished to proceed <br />with this program during Rosefest; Curti added that probably the best day for such an HRC <br />program would be on Saturday, June 28. <br />Curti also mentioned another alternative which was the Parks Department- sponsored <br />Performances in the Park on Tuesday, Thursdays, and Sundays during the summer. <br />In response to a question from the Chair, Curti said the Parks Department would need a firm <br />commitment from the HRC as well as a general outline of the event itself by the first of January. <br />in order for it to be properly advertised by the Parks and Recreation Department in 2014. <br />Vice Chair Brisbois volunteered she would have the subcommittee meet and report back to the <br />Commission. <br />
