Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday,January 27, 2014 <br /> Page 10 <br /> a more free-flowing analysis, not a formulaic analysis to determine their value to <br /> the community. <br /> Community Engagement Commission <br /> Councilmember Laliberte expressed her agreement with the majority of com- <br /> ments heard tonight; and concurred that, at first glance, she found things listed in <br /> the Community Engagement Commission ordinance to be more than advisory, <br /> causing her pause. Councilmember Laliberte also concurred with her preference <br /> for more short-term versus long-term reporting for the Finance Commission as <br /> her goal. <br /> Councilmember Laliberte noted that, as a member of the subcommittee, when she <br /> first proposed her recommendations on January 6a', she had supported a civic en- <br /> gagement commission and questioned the body on their preference. <br /> Councilmember Willmus expressed his personal preference that it remains "Civic <br /> Engagement Commission" as it provided consistency over time with where the <br /> City had been and where it was going; although he admitted it may be splitting <br /> hairs in the long run. <br /> Councilmember McGehee stated that it was splitting hairs; and advised that she <br /> didn't have a strong feeling either way. However, when she considered the term <br /> "civic," she looked at it as getting people involved in government, while she con- <br /> sidered "community" as getting people involved in their community; therefore <br /> making her inclined to stick with"Community Engagement Commission." <br /> Councilmember Etten concurred with those comments of Councilmember McGe- <br /> hee, supporting"Community Engagement Commission." <br /> Mayor Roe noted one solution would be to call it "Civic and Community En- <br /> gagement Commission;" however, he expressed his preference that it be "Com- <br /> munity Engagement." <br /> Finance Commission <br /> Mayor Roe thanked Councilmember Etten for his language on the Finance Com- <br /> mission (Item D), noting that it was along the same lines he intended to suggest. <br /> Mayor Roe expressed concern in attempting a free-form cost benefit analysis and <br /> review of development proposals; expressing his preference for a formulaic anal- <br /> ysis, opining that it would be helpful to have something at the start to inform <br /> those types of applications. <br /> Community Engagement Commission <br /> Mayor Roe concurred with those items that were not within the realm of an advi- <br /> sory role, but in fact the role of the City Council. Mayor Roe opined that there <br /> were not actually that many duties or functions remaining in this list, and offered <br />
