He added that this recommendation <br />pertained to next year's contest. <br />Civic En�a�ement Report <br />53 Commissioner Grefenberg, co-chair of the Commission's Civic Enga�ement Commission, <br />54 ���^^�drew the Commission's attention to his report in their meetin�acicet which included <br />55 '��� the January 6 recommendations on commissions *'��* ==,°r° �r��N;�°a submitted by <br />56 Council Member Laliberte and Council Member McGehee. He indicated that these <br />57 recommendations included the creation of two new commissions, one being a Community <br />58 Engagement Commission. <br />59 Commissioner Grefenberg indicated, based on the Human Rights Commissions' <br />6o recommendations to the Council in November of 2012, that the Council voted four to one to <br />61 create a� Community Engagement Commission, a recommendation the Commission as <br />62 well as its Task Force had made in late 2012. He added that the Civic En�a�ement people would <br />63 work with the Human Ri�hts Commission chair and vice-chair in <br />�4 v;,.�,�� r„ri,ri,;��;,,,, .,,,a r„ri,ri,,,,,;,�, �,,,..,,.ori,o„+ r„ri,ri,;��;,,,, � developin� a synergistic <br />65 relationship between the two commissions. <br />�6 <br />67 <br />�g <br />69 <br />70 <br />71 <br />72 <br />73 <br />74 <br />75 <br />76 <br />77 <br />�s <br />�9 <br />80 <br />81 <br />Grefenber� also noted that he had advised the Council of the Commission's suggestion that <br />current Commission members be allowed to a�lv to serve on this new commission, a specific <br />recommendation made bv Commission in November 2012 when it recommended to the Council <br />the creation of this new civic en�,a�ement commission. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg indicated that staff is currently working to draft an ordinance to <br />establish the new commission in the near future. <br />Staff Renort <br />Essay Contest: Staff Liaison Kari Collins reminded the Commission that essay <br />contest rankings were to be submitted to Carolyn Curti by February 7. <br />Old Business <br />82 Commissioner Grefenberg asked Youth Commissioner Joan Dao for a status update on the <br />g3 cultural festival planned for Rosefest 2014. He recalled a January 1 deadline for submissions to <br />84 the Parks and Recreation Department for inclusion in the 2014 Rosefest. He encoura_ged <br />85 Commissioner Dao to work with Citv staff Carolvn Curti who had had nrevious contact with the <br />86 <br />s7 <br />gs <br />89 <br />90 <br />91 <br />92 <br />Parks De�artment, the Citv agencv res�onsible for Rosefest, on this deadline.
