<br />Bob Bierscheid described the Arona site. The building is 35,000 s.f., the site <br />is 17 acres. The City uses 23,000 s.f.. He described the uses and programs <br />in the building. There are 140,000 user occurrences at the site. Other <br />facilities needed include meeting rooms, storage space, and a leisure pool <br />similar to those seen on the tour. Parking (120 spaces) is overflowing into <br />the neighborhood. <br /> <br />The Oval ice sheet could be covered with an aluminum frame roof system <br />for more efficient use of the ice for both speed skating and hockey. <br /> <br />Stand-alone pools are being built in the Twin Cities (St. Louis Park and <br />Eagan). Gymnasium space is very limited within Roseville. The <br />community center complex should include a gym. <br /> <br />Don Anderson asked about recreation space - should it be dispersed or at <br />another site. <br /> <br />Karl Keel reviewed the Engineering and Public Works facilities on the City <br />Center site. The proximity is convenient but not always necessary. The <br />"store front" should remain at City Hall. The replacement cost is estimate <br />to be $8 million. There is concern with the impact of noise and storage. <br />Approximately 45 employees are located there. <br /> <br />Sgt. Greg Levendosky explained the police facilities and the small size of <br />most spaces. Storage, office and interview rooms are limited. The square <br />footage is 2,000 s.f., and there are offices without windows. There are 47 <br />sworn officers plus four support staff. The practice shooting is done in <br />Anoka County. <br /> <br />Ed Burell, Finance and License Center Director, described his <br />department's space (800 s.f.) and storage (1,200 s.f.). There is space for <br />utility billing and liquor licensing. There are seven full time employees. <br />The license center is located behind the Fire Station #1, with 2,500 s.L The <br />license center is now handling 180,000 transactions per year. There are 60 <br />parking spaces. Fire Administration and election machines are in this <br />building as well as cyber-communications and computer technology. <br /> <br />Ed Burrell explained the possibility for a small, joint service center with the <br />County on the Civic Center site. Don Anderson asked if starting over, how <br />would this be done. A new building could include fire, police, and licensing <br />(possibly a public safety center). <br /> <br />Joe Smith asked if City staff is growing.
