I thank you for bringing this to our attention by means of your recent memo, steve. We consider the corresponding area in Lauderdale, that is that portion of Ryan Avenue between Carl street and Pleasant Street, to be a rather attractive area which we are working into a concept for a trail or a very small park or both. The area in Lauderdale has been encroached upon by Midland Hills and I think you'll find this to be true in your case as well. Ryan is a half-width street in Lauderdale, but I do not know whether or not the other half-width of the street to the north of us is owned by Roseville. Nor do I know whether the request to vacate Ryan is for a half-width street or a full-width street. I am attaching a copy of part of a map upon which I have penciled with a solid line a low budget trail system in Lauderdale, and with a dashed line some ideas to continue the system into Roseville and Falcon Heights. I believe the retention of Ryan with its subsequent cleanup for this type of trail will benefit the citizens of the three cities of Roseville, Falcon Heights, and Lauderdale. What I've penciled uses existing streets to the extent possible, but it would be nice to be able to negotiate a trail just inside the boundaries of both Midland Hills Country Club and the University of Minnesota Golf Course. If Ryan were to be vacated, perhaps it should be done upon receiving something in return which would benefit this trail. Some thought should be given to the danger to walkers of flying golf balls, but people walk around the areas now with little concern for them. The ponds in this area are basically quite attractive. Lauderdale owns three lots on Pleasant just south of Ryan which are essentially under water. One thought for the future is to place a bridge in this area to allow people to walk north on Pleasant to Ryan. Another is to place benches on Ryan 'so that people may sit and epjoy the ducks and tranquility of the area. The pond'in Midland Hills is quite clean and beautiful. The one to the south of Ryan is 1
