Human Rights Commission Minutes
January 15, 2014
Chair Grefenberg asked if anyone on the Commission wished to serve on the LMHRC Board of
Directors. There was no response.
In response to a question from the Chair, Commissioner Grefenberg indicated that the League's
Board met five times each year at varying locations around the state.
In response to a question from Commissioner Singleton as to how the Roseville HRC had
benefited from his term on the LMHRC Board of Directors, he responded that his experience
with the League-wasn't as useful as he had hoped; however the LMHRC most likely benefited by
having on its board ta Roseville HRC member, noting that for the last two years the League
had adopted the Commission's recommended essay contest question.
Chair Groff recalled from his experience with the League's HRC that it was nice to learn what
was happening in other parts of the state, but that his recollection mirrored that of Commissioner
Grefenberg.
Grefenberg also advised that there was another issue besides whether a Roseville HRC member
served on the League's Board, and that was the primary one of whether the Roseville HRC
continued its organizational membership. Its cost to the Commission was $100 per year, and he
asked that the Commission not decide whether to continue its membership for 2014 until its next
meeting.
Commissioner Thao asked whether or not the Roseville HRC could still participate in the state
essay contest if they were not a member of the League. Thao added that her experience with the
League was similar in that she did not think the Roseville HRC benefited much_
Commissioner Grefenberg indicated he would ask the League's Chair how possible failure to
rejoin the League would affect our involvement with the contest.
On the separate issue of whether any current Roseville commissioner could be a LMHRC
director, he noted the League's annual membership meeting to elect a new Board was on
February 22 and that there was a good chance that anyone showing up from Roseville would be
elected
Commissioner Singleton requested that this be placed as an item for discussion at the next
meeting, February 19.
Resident Letter Regarding Roseville Theater Incident: Commissioner Grefenberg indicated
he would like the Commission to address the issues raised in a recent letter to the Commission
concerning an incident at a local movie theater between a Roseville police officer and a resident.
He indicated that he could appreciate that the Police and Administration Departments would
need some time to investigate, but thought it might be appropriate for the commission to provide
a forum-for the resident to address the commission if so desired.
