Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />February 19, 2014 <br />Page 8 of 10 <br />Commissioner Grefenberg provided the HRC members with a bench handout regarding the <br />HRC's page on the City's current website. He recommended the HRC pages be updated soon in <br />order to have relevant information available to the public, especially so that applicants for the <br />Commission would understand its role and functions. He suggested that one of the first things <br />potential applicants for commissions did was to view the specific web site they were considering. <br />Vice Chair Becker took the opportunity to aske�if the Civic Engagement Task Force report, <br />currently linked to from the HRC page, was available on the City's website from some other <br />location. Commissioner Grefenberg indicated this was available from another location and <br />would remain on the City's website. <br />Ms. Collins discussed the proposed updates planned for the City's website, noting the essay <br />winners would be posted. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg moved and Vice Chair Becker seconded a motion to update the City's <br />webpage as shown in the bench handout dated February 19, 2014. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Staff Report <br />Financial Update: Ms. Collins provided the HRC with a financial update. She discussed the two <br />pending expenditures that were not reflected within the summary. She reported she would be <br />providing the Commission with an update on a monthly basis from now on. <br />Vice Chair Becker thanked staff for the summary. He recommended columns be added to the <br />financial report that would show budgeted and actual numbers. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg was pleased with the thoroughness of the report provided by staff. <br />Theater Issue Status Update: Ms. Collins discussed an event that took place at the AMC theaters <br />at Rosedale on December 13th.. She stated a citizen's complaint was � sent to the HRC. <br />Collins continued that the police chief reached out to the complainant and told the complainant <br />that pursuant to standard practice an investigation would be conducted. � Collins noted Lt. <br />Scheider handled the investigation and interviewed seven individuals who witnessed the event. <br />She reported that after taking testimony the Police Department determined the claims of police <br />misconduct were unfounded and the investigation was closed at the beginning of January. A <br />letter was sent to the complainant and a response has not been received. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg said that in the past the Human Rights Commission had provided a <br />forum for complainants in situations such as this. He said that if this matter were to proceed <br />further, he recommended the City Manager and the Police Chief discuss this issue at a future <br />HRC meeting, acknowledging that the Commission was not a police review panel. He requested <br />the HRC members be allowed to review the final resolution report. <br />
