At the September 28, 1992 city council meeting, the City <br />Council discussed Bruce Anderson's request for vacation of a <br />portion of Aldine Street, south of Oakcrest Avenue, and his <br />request for preliminary plat approv 1. <br /> <br />2 . The City Council continued consi eration of this matter <br />until the October 26th City Council meeting to allow further <br />discussion relating to area neighbo s request to maintain a <br />pedestrian path through the right of-way to the adjacent <br />shopping center properties. The C unci1 also scheduled an <br />item on the October 19th work sessi n to discuss this matter <br />further. <br /> <br />3. subsequent to the Council meeting, r. Sands has petitioned <br />the neighborhood concerning its i terest in a path. Mr. <br />Sands has stated that there is considerable support for the <br />construction of a pathway. <br /> <br />4. Staff has also received 19 response in the mail. Of these <br />19, 12 indicated that the City sho ld forget about the path <br />but sell the lot for fair market va ue. One said keep 5-15 <br />feet for a pathway, three said keep all the land for use as <br />a pathway and three said vacate the land and give it to Mr. <br />Anderson. <br /> <br />5. It should be noted that the right-of-way was <br />originally dedicated at no the City, that the land <br />reverts back to the property from which it was dedicated <br />without cost. Therefore, the opti n of selling the street <br />right-of-way for fair market value s not possible. <br /> <br />6. The City has received the atta hed letter from Welsh <br />ComDanies strona1y opDosina the cr ation of an access point <br />through the wall behind the shoppin center. <br /> <br />7 . Mr. Sands has also posed a number of questions concerning <br />the feasibility of constructing a walkway as well as <br />connections to Roseda1e. Attached is a copy of an aerial <br />photo in which existing side 1k location has been <br />indicated. Also shown on the draw'ng are possible ways to <br />connect existing pathways to the n ighborhood to the north. <br />Public Works Department staff has e timated that the cost of <br />
