<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Project No. CMJX-91-0100 <br />Ramsey County Public Health Department <br />May 2. 1991 <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />MPCA Regulatory Compliance, Hazardous Waste Enforcement Log; <br /> <br />MPCA List of Permitted Solid Waste Facilities; <br /> <br />MPCA Hazardous Waste Permit Unit Project Identification List; <br /> <br />MPCA 1980 Metropolitan Area Waste Disposal Site Inventory; and <br /> <br />MPCA 1980 Statewide Open Dump Inventory Maps. <br /> <br />A copy of the letter addressed to Braun Intertec from the MPCA regarding the results of the <br />fùe evaluation is attached to this report in Appcndix C. <br /> <br />The MPCA indicated that they have no fùes listed under the exact address given for the SITE. <br />However, the MPCA's fùe evaluation did indicate that the following sites are within a one <br />mile radius of the SITE: <br /> <br />Rice Street Disposal Site, Rice Street, between McCarrons Boulevard North and <br />McCarrons Boulevard South, Maplewood; and <br /> <br />St Paul Brass Foundry Sand Site, northeast of Rice Street and Larpenteur A venue, <br />Maplewood. <br /> <br />The Rice Street DispOsal Site is located approximately three-quarter mile northeast of the SITE <br />and is listed on the USEPA CERCLIS and the MPCA 1980 Metropolitan Area Waste Disposal <br />Site Inventory. According to the file information (which dates back to March 1982), a <br />groundwater investigation of foundry fill has shown volatile organics in various concentrations <br />in four groundwater monitoring wells. MPCA staff confirmed that the source of the <br />contamination was from an underground storage tank at the corner of Rice Street and <br />Roselawn, at the Safety-Kleen Corporation. Safety-Kleen management was notified by the <br />MPCA of the release from the underground tank. <br /> <br />The S1. Paul Brass Foundry Sand Site is located approximately three-quarter mile east of the <br />SITE and is listed on the MPCA 1980 Metropolitan Area Waste Disposal Site Inventory. <br />The 1980 Metropolitan Area Waste Disposal Site Inventory was a compilation of information <br />from various sources, the most common of which were visual observation and field review. <br />Most open dumps were placed into operation prior to establishment of a solid waste regulatory <br />program at the MPCA. A large number of these sites were either closed prior to this time or <br />
